Escalator breaks apart at Sarawak's Miri Airport

MIRI (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - An escalator at the Miri Airport in Sarawak broke apart without warning on Sunday (June 5) afternoon.

Technical malfunction has been identified as a likely cause.

No one was hurt in the incident that happened at 3pm.

State assistant minister for air transportation Datuk Lee Kim Shin confirmed that the incident did not result in any injuries to any passenger.

He said that there were some people at the bottom of the escalator who managed to get off in time.

He said: "The escalator suddenly broke apart without warning due to a sudden technical malfunction. Airport engineers are already at the site to investigate what had happened."
