A Thai farmer has been arrested after he confessed to erecting an electrified fence that killed three elephants close to a national park, police said. The animals were found dead on Wednesday near a village pond outside the Kaeng Krachan national park in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Police initially thought the elephants had been poisoned after eating pesticide-sprayed crops. Local farmer Sompong Yapakdi, 46, confessed to putting electrified wire around the village pond to prevent the elephants reaching the water.
