DPM Teo on official visit to Myanmar

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is on an official visit to Myanmar, called on President Thein Sein in Naypyitaw yesterday.

Mr Thein Sein and Mr Teo expressed satisfaction with the warm and longstanding rela-tionship between Singapore and Myanmar, said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

They discussed ongoing human resource development initiatives, such as the Singapore-Myanmar Vocational Training Institute, as well as the growing economic interactions between Singapore and Myanmar, the statement said.

Mr Teo, who is also Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, is in Myanmar at the invitation of Vice-President Sai Mauk Kham.

Yesterday evening, Mr Teo and Dr Sai witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding to renew the Singapore-Myanmar Technical Cooperation Programme for Myanmar's civil servants.

Mr Teo will witness the opening ceremonies of the Yangon branches of OCBC Bank and United Overseas Bank today before returning to Singapore, the MFA said.
