Thailand kicked off its annual water festival, or Songkran celebrations, yesterday amid warnings from the Thai government to rein in the usual exuberance as the country continues its year of mourning for the late

King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died last October. Many events since his death have been scaled back or cancelled as a sign of respect.
