Britain deploys investigation experts to help with search for Malaysia Airlines plane

PUTRAJAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Britain is deploying a senior team from its Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) to assist in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The British High Commission here said in a statement that the team comprised an advisor at engine maker Rolls-Royce and two AAIB senior investigators.

"The AAIB offered its assistance to the Malaysian authorities as the investigation body for the country of manufacture of the engines.

"This is the normal procedure for any incident involving an aircraft with UK manufactured engines," the High Commission said in the statement.

"It is valuable to have this expertise on the ground when the MH370 aircraft is discovered and the Malaysian authorities move rapidly into the investigation phase," it said.

The Boeing777-200ER plane disappeared from the radar screen with 239 passengers and crew over an hour after taking off at KLIA enroute to Beijing on Mar 8.
