BANGKOK (THE NATION/ ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A 105kg woman has been crowned Jumbo Beauty Queen at a colourful pageant over the weekend in Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Kwanrapi Boonchaisuk, a daughter of former industry minister Prasert Boonchaisuk, claimed not only the top award but other prizes, including being Miss Congeniality.
"I was being myself at the pageant. My personality and my friendliness helped me win," she said proudly. The beauty queen, 29, said she had never considered her obesity a problem.
"I like my figure and I am proud of it," said Kwanrapi, who owns a bakery shop in Nakhon Ratchasima.
She urged fat women to have self-confidence and believe in their potential.
Contestants in the pageant must weigh at least 80kg. The top prize comes with 10,000 baht ($420) in cash, a trophy, and some bananas.
