Baby boy in critical condition after falling from second floor of building in Malaysia

KAJANG (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A baby boy is in critical condition after he was flung from the second floor of a building in Kajang, Selangor.

The newborn was discovered by the owner of a nearby restaurant at about 5pm on Sunday (June 24).

Kajang deputy OCPD Superintendent Mohd Sabri Abdullah said the restaurant owner heard a loud bang and when he went to check, he found a baby lying in the middle of the road.

"He quickly wrapped the baby with a cloth and brought him to a nearby clinic," Supt Mohd Sabri said when contacted on Monday.

"The baby was then transferred to Kajang Hospital. He is in critical condition."

The police detained a foreign woman at about 11.30pm on Sunday.

"We are investigating the case under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandoning a child below the age of 12," said Supt Mohd Sabri.

"The woman has been remanded until next Monday (July 1)."
