KUALA LUMPUR - It was Sept 20, 1998, and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had just led tens of thousands onto the streets of Kuala Lumpur to demand Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's resignation.
That night, police commandos in balaclavas and armed with submachine guns broke into Mr Anwar's home and bundled the recently sacked deputy prime minister into a van. It marked his last day as a free man for the next six years as he was subsequently jailed for abuse of power and sodomy.
