2 detained over $811,000 in vehicle boot

PADANG BESAR (Perlis) • Two men in a sport utility vehicle were detained on Wednesday evening for carrying cash totalling RM2.4 million (S$811,000) in two boxes in the boot of the vehicle.

The men, aged 55 and 20 and believed to be a father and his son from the Perlis town of Padang Besar, were stopped at a regular security roadblock by officers from the Perlis Border Security Agency (Aksem).

The two boxes bearing coffee brand labels had 48,000 pieces of RM50 notes.

"They could not disclose the source of the cash by way of any documentation," Aksem Commander Syed Basri Syed Ali said.
