The 33rd anniversary of the Philippines' "People Power" revolt was marked with a ceremony in Manila yesterday, but the celebratory fervour that swept the country when its citizens toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos from power in 1986 has faded since. Fewer than 2,000 people attended yesterday's confetti-showering event at the People Power monument.

The March 1 deadline for tariff hikes on US$200 billion (S$270 billion) worth of Chinese goods has been pushed back to an unspecified date, after negotiators from the United States and China made substantial progress in talks to resolve the two countries' unsettling trade war.
