DONGGUAN- At least one person was killed when an urban rail construction site collapsed in Guangdong, China, on Thursday (Aug 13).

The incident in Dongguan came a day after the site partially collapsed, opening up a massive sink hole in the middle of a traffic junction, according to Hong Kong's Apple Daily.

As workers attempted to repair the damage and reinforce the site, the ground collasped further, burying one worker underground and killing him, Apple Daily reported.

Dramatic footage of the incident has gone viral on the Internet. Witnesses can be heard screaming as the worksite, an area roughly 300 square metres, sank.

More than 200 residents were evacuated from the surrounding area, British news site The Telegraph reported. The railway was planned in order to connect Dongguan to the neighbouring city of Huizhou.
