India's Lower House of Parliament approves $26b cheap food plan

NEW DELHI (REUTERS) - India's Lower House of Parliament on Monday approved a plan worth nearly US$20 billion (S$25.6 billion) to give cheap grain to the poor, a key part of the ruling Congress party's strategy to win re-election.

The Upper House must approve the decree before it becomes law.
