New Delhi - Indian minister Shashi Tharoor has been discharged from the hospital on Saturday after receiving medical attention for a "cardiac event" on Friday night - hours after his wife Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a Delhi hotel, reported Zee News.

The junior minister for human resources development, who was outed by his wife for an alleged affair with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on Wednesday, had been warded at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences after he complained of chest pain.

"Mr Shashi Tharoor had a minor cardiac event on Friday night and was hospitalised in the intensive cardiac care unit," his doctor DK Sharma was quoted saying by CNN-IBN.

Mr Tharoor was moved to a private ward after his condition stabilised before he was discharged earlier.

He was reportedly informed about his wife's death on Friday evening, after a housekeeping staff found her lying on a bed, lifeless, in suite number 345 at Leela Palace Hotel.

The couple, who married in 2010, had checked in to the upscale hotel on Thursday because of painting works at their home, reported CNN-IBN.

Ms Pushkar, a businesswoman well-known in Delhi's social circuit, took to Twitter on Wednesday to expose her husband's alleged affair using his widely-followed Twitter handle, prompting an angry denial from Ms Tarar, the alleged third party. She later backtracked, and the couple clarified in a joint statement that they are "happily married" but distressed by "some unauthorised tweets" before the events took a tragic turn.

An autopsy on Ms Pushkar's body is conducted on Saturday. Local media reported that she was suffering from Lupus, an autoimmune disease, and abdominal tuberculosis.

A number of hotel staff were questioned to assist with the probe into her death. CCTV footage and Ms Pushkar's phone calls would also be checked as part of the investigation, CNN-IBN reported.
