India has formally requested Pakistan to extradite Hafiz Saeed, suspected of involvement in the 2008 attacks on Mumbai, for trial in India, Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi told reporters in a briefing on Dec 29.

"We have conveyed a request along with relevant supporting documents to the government of Pakistan," Mr Bagchi told reporters.

In 2022, a Pakistani court jailed Saeed for an extra 31 years over terror financing. He was already in jail after being found guilty on similar charges in 2020. REUTERS
