BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping appears to have a penchant for bending the retirement age rule for Communist Party and government leaders.

The unwritten "seven up, eight down" rule sets at 67 the age limit for old and new members of the party's all-powerful Politburo Standing Committee and the wider Politburo at the start of a new term.
