Eurasian bloc holds summit

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit kicks off in Qingdao, China, today, with the security bloc led by Russia and China welcoming arch-rivals India and Pakistan as new members for the first time. The two-day gathering revolves around trade and security. China's Belt and Road infrastructure project is likely to feature on the agenda.


Swiss to vote on gambling law

Voters in Switzerland will decide tomorrow on whether to back a new gambling law aimed at preventing addiction by allowing only casinos and gaming companies certified in Switzerland to operate, including online betting.

Opponents of the law say that it amounts to Internet censorship, but recent polls indicate a clear majority in support of the new law, which has already been passed by both Houses of Parliament.


Crucial matches at the weekend

All eyes will be on Cleveland, Paris and Montreal this weekend. In Cleveland this morning, the Cavaliers must win Game 4 of the NBA Finals to avoid a 4-0 sweep by the Golden State Warriors. In the French capital, Simona Halep is eyeing her first Grand Slam title when she plays Sloane Stephens in the women's singles final tonight, with the men's final tomorrow. And in Montreal, Lewis Hamilton will be looking to extend his title lead with a victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.
