S. Korean ruling party to pick leaders

South Korea's Saenuri Party will hold a national convention in Seoul today to pick its chairman and supreme council members ahead of next year's presidential election.

The ruling party has been led by an interim leadership after the April 13 parliamentary elections, where it lost the majority that it had held for 16 years.


NDP returns to National Stadium

Tens of thousands of people will be celebrating Singapore's birthday at the National Stadium this evening. It is the first time in a decade that the National Day Parade is returning to the stadium. Elsewhere across the island, there are community events to mark the nation's independence, including one with more than 3,000 Teck Ghee residents at Townsville Secondary School.


China's consumer inflation data

China's National Bureau of Statistics will release its July consumer inflation data today.

Food prices, which account for one-third of China's consumer price index (CPI), had eased last month.

China saw the slowest pace of month-on- month CPI growth in June since the beginning of the year.

The world's second-largest economy has set a price growth target of 3 per cent for this year.
