Abe to speak at Hiroshima anniversary

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is set to make a speech today marking the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima towards the end of World War II. Anticipation over what Mr Abe will say is high amid increasingly nationalistic Japanese policy that is stoking tensions with neighbouring South Korea and China.


VWOs gather for annual conference

The National Council of Social Service will share its direction for the coming financial year with its member voluntary welfare organisations at a conference today. Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin will address participants. Also attending the event is former United Nations undersecretary-general, Dr Noeleen Heyzer, who will speak about public-private partnerships for sustainable development.


Briefing on life insurance performance

The Life Insurance Association of Singapore is holding a press briefing today to discuss the performance of the industry for the first six months of this year. It will also disclose contributions from direct purchase insurance, a novel class of simple term and whole life insurance products that are sold without financial advice and commission, which leads to lower premiums than comparable life insurance products.
