Tsai may pay the price for failing to live up to own hype

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen's bid for a second term is in doubt after the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) crushing setback in yesterday's local elections.

Analysts say she will have to focus on boosting the economy in the remaining 18 months of her term to revive her political future.
