Truce augurs well for both sides to work towards normal ties

China sees the deal it reached with the United States to put impending tariffs on hold and slam the brakes on escalating tensions as a significant step towards a possible resumption of normal trade ties.

The trade war truce called following the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump has set a "good foundation" for future talks, said Chinese state media and experts, who were quick to characterise the outcome as a momentous and positive development.
