Tokyo to mandate solar panels on roofs of new buildings from April 2025

TOKYO - Solar panels must be installed on the roofs of new buildings in Tokyo from April 2025 with few exceptions, in what will be the city's strongest statement yet in the fight against climate change.

The plan is still pending approval by the metropolitan assembly, but has drawn national attention after it was announced by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike on Sept 9.
