There is no way forward for this train emerging from the Wilsecker Tunnel in Bitburg-Erdorf, Germany, after a heavy storm left debris strewn along the railway tracks yesterday.

A massive clean-up was underway after severe storms caused flash flooding in many parts of Germany this week.

Floodwaters hit a zoo by a riverbank yesterday, damaging the cages and allowing five big cats - two lions, two tigers and a jaguar - to briefly escape their enclosures, reported Agence France-Presse. Local newspaper Trier Volksfreund said the big cats were still within the sprawling 30ha grounds of the zoo when they were finally located by a drone.
