SINGAPORE – In the wake of

the failed voting to impeach South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol

, Singaporeans in South Korea are urged to remain vigilant to the possibility of further protests.

A Facebook post uploaded by the Singapore Embassy in Seoul on the night of Dec 7 urged Singaporeans in the Republic of Korea to stay safe and alert.

Protests have erupted in South Korea, with angry citizens taking to the streets after Mr Yoon’s

declaration of martial law on the night of Dec 3

. Despite the foiled impeachment vote, protests may continue in places around Seoul, such as Yeouido and Gwanghwamun, said the embassy.

The embassy added that Singaporeans in the country should avoid areas with large crowds and protests, keep up to date on local South Korean news and follow the instructions of the local authorities.

They are also encouraged to e-Register their location with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at

eregister.mfa.gov.sg

, if they have not already done so.
