BEIJING - The Chinese capital is gearing up for the country's 70th national day, and the authorities are not taking any chances in making sure things go according to plan.

For the past three weekends, central Beijing was placed on lockdown as rehearsals for a massive anniversary parade on Oct 1 got underway.
