Runaway ostrich spotted on South Korean highway

DANGJIN (THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - An ostrich was rescued from a highway on Tuesday (Oct 17).

According to the fire and disaster management agency in South Chungcheong Province, a driver reported that an ostrich was running on Seohae Grand Bridge, a major artery connecting the cities of Dangjin and Pyeongtaek.

Highway patrol units and firefighters dispatched to the scene rescued the ostrich in around 20 minutes.

The ostrich did not cause any accident and was last said to be at a nearby firehouse.

The authorities are waiting for information on how the ostrich came to the bridge.

A fire official said: "There isn't a suitable place to keep the ostrich. We are thinking about sending it to a zoo."
