Protesters' Lady Liberty statue now towers 500m above the city

Hong Kong protesters have placed a Lady Liberty statue on a peak overlooking Hong Kong, as clashes with riot police cause chaos.

Since Aug 31, she had been spotted making the rounds at protests in Hong Kong, towering 4m above the crowd, with a black flag fluttering in the wind.

Lady Liberty, a statue of a protester with a helmet and gas mask, was created so that the pro-democracy movement could have its own symbol of democracy instead of borrowing from other cultures, said its creator, who wanted to be known only as Alex.
