Hong Kong saw its new Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, and her Cabinet sworn in by Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 20th anniversary of the city's handover to China yesterday, a day also marked by protests. In his speech, Mr Xi warned that challenges to China's rule would not be tolerated. Any attempts to challenge the Chinese government "or use Hong Kong to carry out infiltration and sabotage activities against the mainland is an act that crosses the red line, and is absolutely impermissible", he said.
