A parrot which has separation anxiety has moved the hearts of many by clinging to its caretaker, Malaysian Chinese-language newspaper China Press reported.
Videos taken from an animal hospital in Kunming, located in China’s south-western province of Yunnan, showed the hyacinth macaw accompanying a veterinarian everywhere.
The vet, identified only as Dr Lai, said the bird must have constant human companionship to remain calm.
To ease its condition, Dr Lai allowed the bird, nicknamed Er Bao, to be with him throughout his daily routine, sometimes allowing it to perch on his shoulder.
According to Dr Lai, macaws are highly intelligent creatures and often regard their human caretakers as companions.
Dr Lai said Er Bao refused to stay quietly inside its cage in the hospital. The bird would pace constantly and try to get out.
“But as soon as the bird sees or interacts with people, it calms down,” he said.
Er Bao is about one year old and comes from a zoo.
Dr Lai said the macaw is expected to be discharged at the end of September. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
