South Korean protesters with placards demanding the resignation of President Park Geun Hye in Seoul yesterday.

Police estimated more than 40,000 protesters took to the streets to rally against Ms Park, who is ensnared in an influence-peddling scandal.

Organisers claimed close to 200,000 demonstrators had turned up calling for Ms Park to step down, despite her televised apology last Friday.
