TOKYO - A spiralling global energy crisis sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a severe earthquake that knocked power plants offline, and an unseasonable cold snap led Tokyo to declare an unprecedented warning on power supplies last week.
In response, landmarks such as Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree went dark, while news broadcasters like NHK dimmed their studio lights to conserve energy, as did Haneda Airport.
