Jack Ma receives honorary doctorate from HKU

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba's founder Jack Ma was conferred an honorary doctoral degree by the University of Hong Kong yesterday, "in recognition of his contributions to technology, society and the world".

He said after receiving the degree from HKU's chancellor, Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam (above): "Real business people make money by solving social problems."

He said education should teach what machines cannot, such as creativity, and independent thinking.
