China has reported an outbreak of a highly pathogenic strain of H5N1 bird flu at a farm in Shaoyang city, in the southern province of Hunan.
In a statement on its website on Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said the authorities have culled nearly 18,000 poultry in response to the outbreak.
No human cases of the H5N1 virus have been reported.
