FOSHAN/GUANGZHOU (GUANGDONG) - When Mr Qu Jieyu, 24, left his village in Henan province in central China four years ago to look for work, he became a delivery rider in the prosperous southern city of Guangzhou.

He was choosing between making deliveries and factory work, he told The Straits Times (ST) in Guangdong's provincial capital.
