ESM Goh Chok Tong, Hong Kong's Leung reaffirm warm ties between Singapore and HK

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong met Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun Ying during his three-day visit to the city, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Friday (Jan 22).

Mr Leung hosted lunch on Thursday for ESM Goh at the Government House, during which they reaffirmed the warm ties between Singapore and Hong Kong, MFA said. They also exchanged views on recent developments of the two cities, in particular, the opportunities for the cities and the region presented by the "One Belt, One Road" initiative.

The proposal is touted as a revival of ancient Silk Road trade routes and is Chinese President Xi Jinping's signature foreign policy initiative .

ESM Goh is visiting Hong Kong to speak at the "Redefining the Next Asian New Town" forum organised by AECOM and Asia Society on Jan 21, MFA said. Chief Executive Leung and Secretary for Development Paul Chan also spoke at the forum, it added.

Mr Goh also met Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam at the event. On Friday, he was invited to breakfast by Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa.
