A drunk man snatched a gun from a Hong Kong policeman before firing three shots at officers on Thursday morning (March 15).

Two officers were injured in the incident at a flat in Mau Lam House, Kwong Lam Court in Sha Tin, at about 5.30am.

An officer was shot in his right hand and right leg, while the other was grazed by a bullet, reported the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

According to SCMP, a team of police officers responded to a report by a family that a drunk man was creating a disturbance at home.

"When two of the officers were trying to bring the man - who was excited and appeared heavily drunk - under control, the man suddenly snatched a holstered gun from one of them and fired three shots in a row," said Commissioner of Police Stephen Lo Wai-chung.

He was speaking to reporters on Thursday after visiting the officers at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin.

While he did not explain how the suspect got hold of the weapon, he promised that details of the incident would be disclosed to the public.

Both officers were in stable condition, Commissioner Lo added.

The man was arrested by other officers at the scene and has been detained.
