FOSHAN - Thousands of worshippers flocked to a well-known Buddhist temple in Foshan, Guangdong province over the Chinese New Year period to pray for good luck, but not all the offerings made were in the usual cash donations.

Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that a man was photographed depositing his new iPhone 6 into the temple's donation box last Sunday.

Temple staff, however, retrieved the phone and returned it to the man. They allegedly said only cash could be donated, and that monks had no use for an iPhone.

The man then took the phone back and put some 100 yuan notes in the box instead.

It reportedly costs 5,300 yuan (S$1,153) to purchase a brand new iPhone 6 in China.
