The Chinese Communist Party's proposal to remove term limits for China's presidency will safeguard the party's authority as well as that of its general secretary Xi Jinping, who is also state president, said a senior official.

The comments came a day before the national Parliament was due to begin its annual session today, during which the proposal is expected to be passed.
