Carrie Lam's balancing act over her Lantau vision

Big-ticket project helps in ties with Beijing but more must be done to meet HK people's needs

Chief Executive Carrie Lam is right to say she cannot please everyone - and her balancing act between her duties to Hong Kong citizens and to Beijing will only get trickier.

The leader unveiled the centrepiece of her long-term development strategy for the city, billed as the Lantau Tomorrow Vision, in her early October annual policy address which supporters said was forward-looking while critics slammed it as a waste of taxpayers' money on an unnecessary and exorbitant project.
