Beijing marathon draws 30,000 runners

Runners taking part in the 35th Beijing International Marathon in the Chinese capital yesterday. Forty-one-year-old Kenyan Mariko Kipchumba took first place with a time of 2 hr 11 min, making him the first non-Ethiopian athlete to win the race since 2011, according to the official Xinhua news agency. The 42km course, which began at Tiananmen Square and ended at the Olympic Park, attracted about 30,000 participants, with some runners wearing face masks to protect themselves from the air pollution.
