Beijing flexes muscles with flights into Taiwan's ADIZ

The temperature is rising across the Taiwan Strait after China mounted its largest incursions near self-ruled Taiwan in the past week. Asian Insider looks at the state of play on both sides.

Beijing has flexed its military muscles, sending its war planes for five straight days into Taiwan's air defence zone in what was clearly intended as a pointed message to the island.

Fighter jets, bombers and spy planes from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) flew an unprecedented 150 sorties starting on Oct 1 just as the mainland celebrated its National Day holiday and just days before Oct 10, when Taiwan celebrates its own National Day.
