Professor forced student to eat faeces

SEOUL • A South Korean court yesterday jailed a university professor for 12 years for forcing a student to eat human faeces and drink urine during a two-year period of physical and psychological assault.

The 52-year-old professor, identified only as Jang, was arrested in July after his victim, now aged 29, attempted suicide.


Court upholds reporter's conviction

BEIJING•A Chinese court yesterday upheld a conviction against journalist Gao Yu, 71, who was accused in 2013 of leaking an internal Communist Party document to a foreign website, but reduced her jail sentence from seven years to five.
