President orders probe into airport bullet scam

MANILA • Philippine President Benigno Aquino yesterday ordered a thorough investigation into alleged bullet-planting incidents on the baggage of travellers at the country's premier Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

An extortion racket allegedly plants bullets in the luggage of passengers and then asks them for bribes to be spared from arrest and other penalties.

More than $75m spent on MH370 search

KUALA LUMPUR • Malaysia has spent more than RM230 million (S$75 million) in the search for MH370 as of last month, said the Transport Ministry.

It also said the government has spent about RM13 million so far to deal with the MH17 tragedy.

Compensation had also been paid to the next of kin of both tragedies based on the Montreal Convention 1999.
