Iran foreign minister on Singapore visit

SINGAPORE • Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif is in Singapore at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan.

His trip began yesterday and will end tomorrow.

As part of his regional tour of South-east Asia, DrZarif who is accompanied by senior Iranian foreign ministry officials, will call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He will also deliver a lecture under the Middle East Institute's Prominent Speaker Series.

1MDB report to lose 'secret' status

KUALA LUMPUR • The final audit report on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) will no longer be classified as an official secret once it is tabled in Parliament, said Public Accounts Committee chairman Hasan Arifin in a statement yesterday.

The Auditor-General had classified the final report on 1MDB as secret to make sure that the documents are not leaked, he said .

Fishing is proof of rights: CPC leader

BEIJING • China's fishermen operating in the South China Sea are proof of the country's maritime rights and interests, a government official said yesterday, referring to ships on the frontlines of China's push to assert its claims in disputed waters.

Mr Luo Baoming, the Communist Party boss of the southern island province of Hainan, made the comments during the annual session of China's Parliament, the National People's Congress (NPC).
