Gandhis accused of misusing party funds

NEW DELHI • The Delhi High Court has ordered Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son, Mr Rahul Gandhi, to appear in court over alleged misuse of party funds. They face accusations over using US$13.5 million (S$18.9 million) to pay off debts from a newspaper business.

Johor administrative capital to be renamed

KULAIJAYA • Johor's administrative capital Nusajaya will be renamed Iskandar Puteri from next year.

State Secretary Ismail Karim said Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has also decreed that the districts of Kulaijaya and Ledang be renamed Kulai and Tangkak.

Thai junta detains students over protest

BANGKOK • Dozens of students were detained by soldiers after they tried to stage a protest at a public park. A junta spokesman said yesterday that the Rajabhakti Park in Hua Hin "was built for Thai people to pay homage" to the monarchy, not for protests.

Its construction has been dogged by graft allegations.
