Attackers wanted to steal police weapons

JAKARTA • Police said the perpetrators of Sunday's attack on North Sumartra's police headquarters meant to steal weapons for terrorist acts. "They were going to take weapons for future attacks on the police and military," said a spokesman yesterday.

The two attackers sneaked into a checkpoint post and stabbed to death a police officer, wounding another. One of the attackers was shot dead. Both were allegedly connected to terror group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah.

Next-gen bullet train debuts in China

BEIJING • China's new bullet train made its debut on the Beijing-Shanghai line yesterday.

The next-generation train called Fuxing, which means rejuvenation, boasts top speeds of 400kmh and a consistent speed of 350kmh.
