HONG KONG • The tighter scrutiny by the United States on all Chinese technology firms marks the start of a long-drawn-out policy - something that Asean and Hong Kong will have to contend with, political watchers say.

Retired diplomat and chairman of the Middle East Institute Bilahari Kausikan told The Straits Times the pressure on Asean economies will rise as the US moves to ensure they do not act as a back door for China into the US market.
