HUNAN - It started like any other road rage incident: A man and a woman got out of their car to scold a pedestrian for jaywalking, drawing a crowd of curious onlookers.

However, the situation in Longhui county, Hunan province on Monday (June 12) escalated rapidly after the woman pointed her finger at the pedestrian and slapped her, according to Chinese news website Youth.cn.

At this point, the pedestrian fell to the ground. The crowd, which had grown to about 100 people, quickly became enraged with the couple and overturned their car, a Volkswagen.

According to a statement released by the local police, it took three hours to disperse the crowd.

The couple were later detained by police, with two others being held over the incident. The woman who slapped the pedestrian was also dismissed from her job at the local tax department.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with slight injuries.
