3 killed, 2 injured in South Korea's tower crane collapse

SEOUL - Three workers were killed and two others injured when a tower crane collapsed in South Korea earlier on Tuesday (Oct 10), Xinhua news agency reported, citing local media.

According to the police and fire department, the 20-storey high tower crane snapped and fell to the ground on Tuesday afternoon. The crane was at a construction site for an apartment block in Uijeongbu city, Gyeonggi province, Xinhua reported.

Four workers were on the crane dismantling it when the accident happened. Among the four, three were killed after the tower crane fell to the ground.

The other worker was hooked with cords of the crane, according to media reports. He was rescued about an hour later. The worker was badly injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.  Meanwhile, the driver of the tower crane escaped with minor injuries, said Xinhua.

The authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
