Firemen fighting a blaze at HNA Platinum Mix Hotel in Nanchang, in China's Jiangxi province, on Saturday. The authorities have detained 24 people following the fire, which was set off by unsafe welding and cutting work, state media said yesterday. Nine people who were injured in the blaze are being treated in hospital and three of them are in critical condition, said Xinhua news agency. Of the 10 people killed during the incident, three were guests of the hotel, while seven were construction workers, the agency cited the city government as saying. More than 260 residents of a 24-storey apartment building connected to the hotel were evacuated.
