Nagoro, which is about 550km south-west of Tokyo, has become known as the valley of dolls after local resident Tsukimi Ayano began placing life-size dolls everywhere, including in the local school, to inject some life into her depopulated village. The depopulation problem is replicated all around Japan, as it battles a declining population.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo appears set for a second term as unofficial quick-count results from yesterday's election rolled in. His rival, Mr Prabowo Subianto, however, claimed that he had won the popular vote and urged supporters not to let his victory be snatched away. Still, observers say the official results are unlikely to change from the projected outcome of the election.
